Centres of Excellence (CoE)

  • CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE GEOPOLYMER & GREEN TECHNOLOGY (CEGeoGTech)

CeGeoGTech is an active Centre of Excellence, established in July 2011 and located at School of Materials Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP). UniMAP is Malaysia’s 17th public institution of higher learning. It was approved by the Malaysian Cabinet on May 2001. Originally known as Kolej Universiti Kejuruteraan Utara Malaysia (KUKUM), or Northern Malaysia University College of Engineering, it was renamed as Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) in February 2007. The first intake consisted of 116 engineering students who started classes on June 2002. Currently, UniMAP has approximately 11,000 students and a workforce of more than 1,700 academic and non-academic staff members.

COE HEAD : ASSOCIATE PROF. Ir. Dr. SHAYFULL ZAMREE ABD. RAHIM
    E-mel : shayfull@unimap.edu.my

  • CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE ADVANCED SENSOR TECHNOLOGY (CEASTech)

This research centre focuses on the development and applications of novel sensing modalities, advanced sensor materials and intelligent sensor systems. Over the past few years, significant work has been done on bio-mimicking sensors (particularly electronic nose and tongue, vision and infrared), sensor materials (conducting polymers, molecularly imprinted polymers (MIP)), odour sensing for mobile robots and wireless sensor networks. The centre is well-experienced in building and integrating an assortment of sensor systems, ranging from general purpose PC-based implementations to customized microcontrollers/DSPs and FPGA-based devices. A variety of applications have been extensively carried out for agriculture (herbal assessments, early detection of plant diseases, maturity assessments of tropical fruits), environmental monitoring (indoor, air & water quality) and medical diagnosis.

COE HEAD : ASSOCIATE PROF. Dr. AMMAR ZAKARIA
    E-mel : ammarzakaria@unimap.edu.my

  • CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE FOR RENEWABLE ENERGY (CERE)

COE HEAD : ASSOCIATE PROF. Ts. Dr. MUZAMIR ISA

  • ADVANCED COMMUNICATION ENGINEERING (ACE) CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE

The Advanced Communication Engineering Centre of Excellence is a research group under the School of Computer & Communication Engineering at the Universiti Malaysia Perlis.

    The Wireless Communication division

    The Optical Communication division

The Intelligent Computing division is dedicated to understanding processes and finding solutions for the outstanding problems in visual processing and perception, as well as artificial intelligence, machine learning, and networks computing for a wide variety of applications

COE HEAD : ASSOCIATE PROF. Dr. SOH PING JACK
    E-mel : pjsoh@unimap.edu.my

  • CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE UNMANNED AERIAL SYSTEMS (UAS)

The Centre of Excellence for Unmanned Aerial Systems (COEUAS) aspires to become a catalyst in the development of the UAS industry in Malaysia as well as providing timely solutions to Malaysia’s needs in many areas like security, border control, ISR, SAR, and civilian use. The COEUAS will act as an important fabric in the UAS industry, supporting the industry with needed human expertise in the field of operation, maintenance & repair services, research & development and many more. The COEUAS will eventually able to promote the development and manufacturing of indigenous UAS, made in Malaysia

COE HEAD : ASSOCIATE PROF. Ir. Dr. ZURADZMAN MOHD RAZLAN
    E-mel : zuradzman@.unimap.edu.my

  • CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE FOR FRONTIER MATERIALS RESEARCH (CFMR)

COE HEAD : ASSOCIATE PROF. Dr. MOHD SOBRI IDRIS

    E-mel : sobri@unimap.edu.my

  • CENTRE OF EXCELLENCE FOR BIOMASS UTILIZATION

The Centre of Excellence for Biomass Utilization (CoEBU) was established in 2015 under the School of Bioprocess Engineering, Universiti Malaysia Perlis. The purpose is to focus on research involving the utilization of biomass, since the location of the centre is in Perlis, where the main produce are paddy, sugarcane, mango farms and teakwood among others. The establishment is in line with the 11th Malaysia Plan (2016-2020), Strategy 4 which is to pursue green growth for sustainability and resilience. This centre of excellence is well planned in the interest to enhance research culture in combining chemical engineering, agriculture, bioprocessing, biosystems and others to convert waste to wealth.
