Kangar, December 14, 2016 - Five Universiti Malaysia Perlis Engineering Programs were awarded accreditation for three years from 2016 to 2018 by the Engineering Accreditation Council (EAC).

The five programs are Bachelor of Computer Engineering, Bachelor of Microelectronic Engineering, Bachelor of Product Design Engineering, Bachelor of Material Engineering and Bachelor of Polymer Engineering.

"We have received the Certificate of Accreditation for five UniMAP Engineering programs for the EAC Accreditation Assessment session visit last March”, said UniMAP Vice-Chancellor, Datuk Prof Dr. Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal,

"As a result of the visit, the Board of Engineers Malaysia (BEM) has agreed to grant the certificate of accreditation for these five Engineering program at UniMAP," he told reporters after attending a gathering with the top management of UniMAP, in Kubang Gajah Campus, here, yesterday.

Also present were the UniMAP Deputy Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and Alumni, Assoc Prof. Dr. Mohd Foad Sakdan and UniMAP Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic and International, Assoc Ir. Dr. Rezuwan Kamaruddin.

He added that the recognition was the result of hard work and commitment from everyone in UniMAP.

Kangar, 14 Disember 2016 - Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) has contributed a total of 3,449 used furniture to selected schools and organizations.

UniMAP’s Vice Chancellor, Dato’ Prof. Dr. Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal said that the furniture is still in good condition. It was used by the students in Kuala Perlis Residential Hostel which has officially closed its operations in the last semester.

 “The types of furniture contributed are bed, dresser table, desk and chair. It was delivered to students in 23 schools and universities around the state of Perlis, Kedah and Kelantan. It is hoped that students will be able to make use of the items”.


"Indirectly, it became a program of corporate social responsibility of universities (UCSR) and it has been practiced since UniMAP was established," he said when speaking at the furniture contribution event held at the Tun Dr. Ismail Residential College (KKE) in UniMAP today.

Also present at the ceremony is Deputy Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Alumni (HEPA) UniMAP, Assoc Prof. Dr. Mohd Foad Sakdan, Rector of Kolej Universiti Islam Perlis (KUIPs) Dr. Mohd. Mizan Mohamad Aslam and Chairman of the Management Council UniMAP Residential College,  Kirwan Jasbir Jaafar.

In the event, Zul Azhar presented a letter on the delivery of the furniture to the representatives as a symbolic handover of the donation.

Meanwhile, the Director of UniMAP Co-Curriculum Centre Prof. Dr. Zaliman Sauli whom represented the Headmaster of “Pusat Dakwah Jeli”, Kelantan said that the furniture is essential to complete the boarding school.

He added that during his visit to the school, he found out that the students are sleeping on mattresses on the floor; therefore, the contribution of 100 beds will provide comfort to the students. Besides, the school is frequently involved with programs and often receives visits, thus by having the furniture; it will help provide facilities to guest as well.

  

 

 

 

Kangar, December 13, 2016 - A total of 30 students from Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) was selected to receive Education Assistance Fund from Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation (BPYTAR) after a successful interview conducted recently.

Vice Chancellor of UniMAP, Dato’ Prof. Dr. Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal said, the selection of students is also looking at their financial status, where underprivileged students are given priority. Then the selected students are called for an interview.

“Besides financial, we as well evaluate and look into the applicants’ academic performance, based on their cumulative grade performance achievement.”

“Each recipient will receive a study fund of RM 3000.00 per person and I hope this financial aid will be utilised fully for their studies”, said Zul Azhar in a ceremony to handover the study fund to recipients in Dewan Keikhlasan, Kangar.

Also present are Deputy Vice Chancellor of Students Affairs and Alumni (HEPA), Associate Professor Dr. Mohd Foad Sakdan dan Dean of Students Affairs and Alumni (HEPA) Associate Professor Razli Ahmad.

According to Zul Azhar, UniMAP is very honoured with the allocation and contribution by Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation of which totalling to RM 90 000. 

“We are very grateful and thankful to Tunku Abdul Rahman Foundation for their effort in helping to ease the students’ burden.”

"In addition, UniMAP also contributed RM1,000 each to three students, in which their family's home was destroyed by fire a few months ago," added Zul Azhar .

 

Sungai Chuchuh, December 4, 2016 - A total of 500 participants took part in various programs in conjunction with Jom Fit Program with the Police Undergraduate Voluntary Corp (SUKSIS) which took place at the Uniciti ALAM Campus Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP), recently.

The program was organised by the UniMAP SUKSIS Club and UniMAP Sports Centre and it was divided into three events, namely ‘5 Kilometer Run Zorro', 'Fear Factor Physical Fitness’ and Traditional Sports.

Program Director, Danial Mirza Muammar Rozilan said, SUKSIS Jom Fit Program was organized to improve the fitness of the body and the mind of the SUKSIS members plus to test their mental and physical endurance.

"This is the first time that we organize Jom Fit Program and we did not expect to get an overwhelming response.

Other than the SUKSIS members, UniMAP staffs and locals took the opportunity to participate in these events, thus, rendered positive impact on the local community, " he said.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commander of UniMAP SUKSIS, SUKSIS Supt, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Khairul Nizar Ismail launched the opening ceremony of 'Zorro 5KM Run' while the closing ceremony officiated by Assistant Superintendent Raja Shah Erman Raja Arifin.

Also present were the Principal of  Uniciti Alam Residential College,Sir Syed Akhmal Syed Jamalil, President of UniMAP SUKSIS Club, Muhammad Ikhwan Faruk Abdul Karim and the Training Officer of SUKSIS.

Besides the exciting events, the Blood Bank Unit of Hospital Tuanku Fauziah also offers an opportunity for the participants and the public to donate blood.

 

Kangar, 4 December – Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) researchers won 14 medals and two special awards at the Seoul International Invention Fair (SIIF) 2016 that took place at COEX, Seoul, South Korea.

During the four-day exhibition which began on 1 December, UniMAP researchers took home four gold medals, four silver medals and six bronze medals among 639 participating products from over 31 countries.

The UniMAP product Hybrid Wireless-Fiber Utilizing Flexible Cross Correlation (FCC) Code for Future Network Accessibility developed by Dr. Mohd Rashidi Che Beson, Prof. Dr. Syed Alwee Aljunid Syed Junid and Prof. Madya Ir. Dr. Anuar Mat Safar contributed a gold medal at the exhibition.

Three other gold award-winning products were the Saw Based Sensor For E-Coli Detection invented by Prof. Dr. Uda Hashim and Dr. Mohammad Nuzaihan Md Nor, the Photovoltaic Powered Uninterrupted Power Supply (UPS)  invented by Prof. Madya Dr. Muzamir Isa and Uni-Fez®: A Novel Fertilizer From Agricultural Waste by Dr. S. Ragunathan.

Additionally, two more research products created by Dr. Midhat Nabil Ahmad Salmi and Dr. S. Ragunathan received special awards by the National Research Council of Thailand and Institute of Applied Computer Science, Poland.

Dr. Mohd Rashidi berkata, produk Hybrid Wireless-Fiber FCC OCDMA yang dibangunkan oleh beliau dan penyelidik bersama membolehkan akses internet berkelajuan tinggi dicapai oleh pengguna pada kos yang sangat rendah.

Dr. Mohd Rashidi said that the Hybrid Wireless-Fiber FCC OCDMA he developed by with his co-researchers provides high speed internet access by low-cost users.

He added that this integration between wireless and fibre-optics has the potential to dynamically enhance high-speed networks which is also environmentally friendly.

“This system offers great mobility and can provide stable bandwidth for a number of applications like Fibre-to-the-Home (FTTH) in rural areas, high-speed trains, the Internet of Things (IoT) and oil and gas industry applications,” he said in a statement here today.

SIIF is the largest invention exhibition in the world for inventors and researchers to show off their new ideas and products to manufacturers, investors, distributors, licensing companies and the public.

It is organised by the Korean Intellectual Property Office (KIPO) and supported internationally by the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO) and the International Federation of Inventors' Association (IFIA).

Pauh Putra, December 3, 2016 - University students are encouraged to be actively involved in the uniformed bodies and extra-curricular activities because both are very important for the job market.

The advice was given by the National Sports Council director general Dato' Ahmad Shapawi Ismail when launched the opening ceremony of  the Festival of Martial Arts which organized by the Co-curriculum Centre, Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) 2016 in collaboration with the National Sports Council and Perlis Sports Council in the Dewan Ilmu, today.

Ahmad Shapawi said that although the current participation in extracurricular activities is a mandatory requirement for graduation unlike those university days, however, students that take advantage will gain experience which will be useful in the future.

"Do not feel sorry or forced to participate in this kind of program, take the participation as a knowledge because through the program, it also trains you to be a leader.

"In addition, students can also acquire the experience of organising an event or program plus can learn to defend themselves, especially when the crime increasingly prevalent nowadays," he said.

Also present at the opening ceremony were the Director of UniMAP Co-curriculum Centre, Prof Dr Zaliman Sauli, Deputy Director of UniMAP Sports Centre, Nazmizan Muhammad, representative of the Perlis Sports Council, Noor Zaidi Hamad and coaches that involved in the martial arts.

Meanwhile, Dr Zaliman said for the first semester of 2016/2017 academic year, a total of 1320 students registered for the martial arts courses, while 805 students enrolled in sports such as archery, tennis, athletics, rugby and so on.

He said more than 800 students participated in the inaugural festival with 40 categories of competition involving Silat, Taekwondo and Karate-do.

"This is a breakthrough for UniMAP as it managed to gather many participants from the three martial arts because this is the first time.

"It also gives exposure to the students about different aspects of the organization of a tournament, as well as  strengthening the bond between them," he said when delivering an opening speech at the ceremony.
