Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) and Yayasan Pelajaran Mara (YPM) today has signed a cooperation agreement with the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the implementation of Korea Associate Degree program (KAD).
During the ceremony which was held at Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra library in Unimap campus,Pauh, UNIMAP was represented by the Vice Chansellor Prof Datuk Dr Kamarudin Hussin while YPM was represented by the Chief Executive Officer, Dr Zubir Harus.
The MOU was also witnessed by the UniMAP Academic & International Deputy Vice Chancellor, Prof Dr Zul Azhar Zahid Jamal and the project director of the Malaysia-Japan Education Program YPM, Hj Mohammad bin Muda.
According to Prof Dr Kamarudin, the programme which is scheduled to kick start next year will be implemented with collaboration with Korean universities and UniMAP will serve as the hub for Korean language.
For a start, 50 Mara sponsored students will be the programme’s pioneer and will study for 3 years at UniMAP before pursuing their degree programme in Korea for another 2 years.
"This program will be cost effective for the students to stay longer in the country to get a degree from a university in Korea," he said after the MoU ceremony.
According to him, the number of students who will follow the program is expected to continue to grow due to the facilities provided in addition to lower studying cost as compared to the students’ long stay in Korea.
"UniMAP will use Sungai Chuchoh campus as Korean Language hub as well as English language, at the same time the campus will be the learning center for nano-technology, engineering, agriculture and biotechnology before the students pursue their studies at selected universities in the country.
We will invite lecturers from Korea to provide guidance to the students to learn their national language "he said.
