UniMAP is located in Perlis. The smallest state in Malaysia, Perlis lies at the northern part of the west coast of Peninsular Malaysia and has Satun and Songkhla Provinces of Thailand on its northern border. It is bordered by the state of Kedah to the south. This pleasant little state has a population of less that 23,000, comprising mainly of Malays (the majority), Chinese and Indians.
The capital of Perlis is Kangar, while the royal capital is Arau. Padang Besar, one of Malaysia's gateway to Thailand, is about 30 minutes drive from Kangar. The main port and ferry terminal here us at the small village of Kuala Perlis, linking mostly to the famous Langkawi Island. Some 2.5 hours drive to the south is the beautiful island of Penang, while metropolitan Kuala Lumpur lies about 6 hours away by car (or 40 minutes by air).
Perlis is an ideal location for study because of its quiet appeal, rustic charm, peaceful greenery, and serene foliage.
